Steps

  • Grease two 20cm tins, line with parchment, and pre-heat oven to 180°C.
  • Beat butter, sugar, eggs, flour, baking powder, and zest in a bowl for two minutes.
  • Divide the batter between the tins and level the surfaces.
  • Bake for 25 minutes until golden and springy.
  • Cool in tins briefly, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  • Mix filling ingredients and spread between the layers and over the top.
  • Decorate the cake with spiralled orange zest.
