Steps

  • Preheat the oven to 200°C.
  • Heat oil in a frying pan and brown the beef mince for 5 minutes.
  • Add chopped onion and cook for 3 minutes.
  • Stir in tomato purée and cook for 3 minutes, then stir in flour for another minute.
  • Add mushrooms, stock, and Worcestershire sauce, then simmer covered for 20 minutes.
  • Cool the mixture and pour into a 1 litre pie dish.
  • Roll out pastry on a floured surface and drape over the dish.
  • Trim the edges and decorate the top with pastry leaves using egg yolk as glue.
  • Slit the pastry, brush with egg yolk, and bake for 25 minutes until golden.
