Fry the sausages in oil for 10 minutes until browned and transfer to a casserole dish.
Fry the bacon pieces until crisp and add them to the sausages.

Stir in the chilli powder or paprika and cook for a few seconds.
Incorporate tomatoes, stock, purée, Worcestershire sauce, sugar, and herbs.
Add the wine or water and bring the mixture to a simmer.
Pour the liquid into the casserole dish and simmer covered for 20 minutes.
Rinse the beans, stir them into the casserole, and cook for 10 minutes until thickened.
Season with salt and pepper and serve with rice or bread.
