Steps

  • Wash jam jars in soapy water and rinse in clean warm water.
  • Dry jars upside down on an oven rack at 140°C for thirty minutes.
  • Combine the condensed milk caramel, butter, and 8 tablespoons of water in a pan.
  • Bring the mixture to a simmer and stir until the caramel dissolves.
  • Stir in the salt and rum if using, then allow to cool slightly.
  • Pour the sauce into the sterilised jars and store in the fridge.
