Steps

  • Stir syrup and butter into warm milk, then dissolve crumbled yeast into the mixture.
  • Mix in flour and salt to form a smooth dough and rest for 5 minutes.
  • Knead dough on a floured surface for 10 minutes and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour.
  • Grease and flour a 12cm x 20cm bread tin.
  • Knock back dough, divide into two balls, and place in the tin to rise until doubled.
  • Preheat the oven to 220°C.
  • Slash dough and bake for 10 minutes at 220°C, then 30 minutes at 180°C until golden.
  • Cool the bread loaf on a wire rack.
