Steps

  • Heat the butter and oil in a large lidded saucepan.
  • Fry the onion gently until softened.
  • Stir in the cinnamon and nutmeg.
  • Add 600g of shredded cabbage and fry for 4 minutes until glossy.
  • Stir in the sugar, diced apples, and 150ml of red wine vinegar.
  • Cover and cook gently for 30 minutes.
  • Stir in the fruit sauce if using and cook for an additional 10 minutes.
  • Adjust sugar levels to taste if the sauce was omitted.
