Steps

  • Preheat the oven to 160°C and grease a 20cm square cake tin.
  • Mix the flour, baking powder, spices, sugar, and dried fruit in a bowl.
  • Add the butter and eggs, then mix in milk until the batter is smooth.
  • Pour the batter into the tin and bake for 105 to 120 minutes until springy.
  • Cool the cake, slice it, and spread each slice with butter.
  • Fry slices in a hot pan for one minute per side and serve with cheese.
