Steps

  • Preheat the oven to 220°C.
  • Sift the flour and salt into a bowl and stir in the sugar.
  • Rub the butter into the flour mixture until it resembles crumbs.
  • Stir in the dried fruit and add the beaten egg and buttermilk.
  • Mix into a soft dough using a knife and then your hands.
  • Turn dough onto a floured surface and roll to a thickness of 2.5cm.
  • Cut out scones using a 5cm cutter without twisting.
  • Place on a baking sheet and dust with extra flour.
  • Bake in the top of the oven for 10 to 12 minutes until golden.
  • Transfer to a cooling tray and serve fresh with butter.
