Steps

  • Preheat the oven to 170°C.
  • Remove hard crusts from the bread, butter one side, and cut into triangles.
  • Peel, core, and thinly slice the apple.
  • Layer bread triangles butter-side down in a 1.5-litre baking dish with apple and half the raisins.
  • Repeat the layers with remaining ingredients, finishing with bread butter-side up.
  • Whisk milk, eggs, and sugar in a jug and pour over the bread.
  • Submerge the top bread layer and let it soak for at least 15 minutes.
  • Bake for 35 to 45 minutes until the top is golden and the custard is set.
