Steps

  • Roll out shortcrust pastry on a floured surface until 3cm larger than the plate.
  • Line the plate with pastry, trim edges, and chill in the fridge.
  • Preheat oven to 190°C and place a baking sheet on the middle shelf.
  • Rub butter into sifted flour and salt until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs.
  • Stir in sugar and oats, then chill until needed.
  • Peel, core, and slice apples, then toss with lemon juice.
  • Coat apples with flour, spices, sugar, and optional raisins.
  • Fill the pastry with apples, add crumble topping, and bake at 190°C for 30 minutes.
